G&S PIRATES OF PENZANCE – £99PP

Frederic, a pirate’s apprentice, falls head-over-heels in love with Mabel, the daughter of Major-General Stanley. Frederic is due to be released from his apprenticeship on his 21st birthday, but there’s a snag. Born on 29 February, Frederic discovers that he is technically still a youngster. Although very much in love, his dedication to duty is unshakeable. Can he find a way to live happily-ever-after with Mabel?

SABRAGE – £119PP

The act of slicing off the cork from a bottle of champagne, is the mark of ceremonial splendour – and what better place to celebrate both the art and ceremony, than in the beautiful Grim’s Dyke hotel. These evenings give you a chance to try your hand at Sabrage as well as enjoying fine gourmet dining, and Champagne.

Date: Friday 30th June 2023
Timings: Arrival 7pm for 7.30pm
Includes: 5-course gourmet meal with Champagne throughout the meal.
Shared tables for tables below 8, event takes place in the Music Room or Drawing Room depending on numbers.

G&S H.M.S Pinafore – £99PP

The Royal Navy ship, H.M.S. Pinafore is anchored in the harbour at Portsmouth. Captain Corcoran’s daughter, Josephine, has fallen in love with Ralph Rackstraw, a lowly seaman. Josephine questions whether she should follow her heart, or her father’s wishes to marry Sir Joseph Porter, the First Lord of the Admiralty. She abides by her father at first, but Sir Joseph’s advocacy of the equality of humankind encourages Ralph and Josephine to overturn conventional social order. Will they escape without Captain Corcoran discovering their plan?

G&S THE RUDDIGORE (HALLOWEEN SPECIAL) – £99PP

The bad baronet of Ruddigore is hiding in the small English village of Rederring, to escape a family curse. Here Robin has fallen in love with Rose Maybud. Rose bases her ideas of right and wrong on a book of etiquette and is therefore unable to encourage the advances of any youths. Being too shy to develop a relationship with Rose, Robin calls upon Richard Dauntless who offers to speak to Rose on Robin’s behalf. Overcome by Rose’s beauty, Richard sets about capturing her for himself and nearly succeeds in doing so, until Robin finally declares his love for her and wins her back. Richard has his revenge and reveals that Robin is none other than the true baronet of Ruddigore, and as such the rightful inheritor of the curse. Rose, of course, could never marry a Bad Baronet and falls back into the arms of a well-pleased Richard. Will Robin be able to carry out his duties of committing a crime a day or will he find a way to win back Rose once more?

TV & Film Event – Dr Who and Daleks 60th Anniversary

Join us to celebrate this iconic 60th anniversary of the longest running SciFi series in the world. Learn about the filming at Grim’s Dyke of the 1960’s episodes of ‘The Evil of the Daleks’ recently re-filmed by the BBC, also other important filming at Grims’s Dyke.

Date: Sunday 12th November 2023

Timings: Book for 12pm or 2.30pm

Includes: Free talk, £10 for Tea/Coffee and themed biscuits.

G&S IOLANTHE – £99PP

Iolanthe, a fairy, has been banished from fairyland because she married a mortal; this is forbidden by fairy law. Her son, Strephon, is an shepherd and is in love with Phyllis. All the members of the House of Peers also want to marry Phyllis. Strephon needs the consent of her guardian, the Lord Chancellor, who refuses him. When Strephon turns to his mother for comfort, Phyllis misinterprets their intimacy (as a fairy Iolanthe has not physically aged beyond a certain point) and, believing him to be unfaithful, she renounces her love for him. and sets off a climactic confrontation between the peers and the fairies. Although he protests that Iolanthe is his mother, his claims are met with mockery by Phyllis and the peers (who are unaware of his parentage) and even the intervention of the Queen of the Fairies cannot persuade them otherwise. Furious at their attitude, the Queen declares that Strephon will enter Parliament and will work to overthrow all the privileges enjoyed by the nobility. Will Strephon reveal to Phyllis the truth, that he is in fact half a fairy and win back her love?
