Spring 2016 wedding trends

Who doesn’t love a wedding? – and we at the Grim’s Dyke are no exception! If you’re in the middle of planning a wedding over the next year, or about to get started with your planning, there’s some great spring 2016 trends to take note of.

The lovely Kate Middleton (Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge), set the trend for more traditional-styled wedding dresses, bringing in long lace sleeves and high necklines. But with gossamer sheers and ‘barely there’ materials, you can easily add illusion (and discreet coverage) with sequins, feathers, beading and embroidery – and let’s not forget the 3-D look – with floral and butterfly motifs and adornments seemingly about to take flight.

For the bride who wants to show off her body, there’s the ever-plunging necklines and backs. Whether you’re looking for peekaboo lace, cut-out panels, modest décolletage, plunging or full-on naked-illusion – there’s something for everyone.

Maybe you don’t want to be traditional at all? That’s covered in spring 2016 too! With pretty watercolours and soft pastels offering an alternative to white and cream, you’ll be sure to make a statement – and let’s not forget the pant suite. White tuxedos and tailored trousers in lace and chiffon, made quite an impact on the catwalk!

If you’re after inspiration for your wedding meal, why not opt for healthy and multicultural? 2016 is going fresh and healthy, with vegetables, lighter food options and even super drinks (such as coconut water and healthy juices).

But never fear, there is still the naughty-but-nice elements firmly in the mix for 2016. Large trays of canapes are definitely in, as is serving your guests warm milk and cookies, hot chocolate and marshmallows, just before they’re due to depart!

And let’s not forget the wedding cake! This gets an overhaul, with brides wanting something that is either different or reflects their personality. Macaroon tiered displays, desert tables and personalised cakes are all the rage – as are black and gold mixes and bold, bright coloured icing. But never fear, if you’re more traditional-minded, the elegance of the 1950’s is in too – along with the ever popular pinks, floral displays and lace edged cakes.

If you’re after more wedding inspiration, why not come along to the Wedding Fayre being held at the Grim’s Dyke on Sunday 18th October between 11.30am and 4pm? You’ll get the opportunity to interact with local businesses who cater for your every wedding need – and you’ll be able to take a look at the options we at Grim’s Dyke can offer you too.
